Perfect Pairings with Laurel Vines
We recently hit the road to visit a fellow producer, Laurel Vines, to discover some delicious wine pairings for some of our favourite dishes. We were greeted by Rebekah, who kindly showed us around the small, but perfectly formed vineyard.
Located in the beautiful hamlet of Aike, East Yorkshire, we were met by the most fantastic views over their 10 acres of lush vines. The scenery is stunning, and the vines are thriving, even given the fickle Yorkshire weather!
Laurel Vines have collected a host of awards since they started in 2010, and recently have commenced a real focus on sustainability, even being awarded a REYTA (Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Award) for their efforts in this area back in 2022. With the winery being run on energy from their solar panels, and old fencing being replaced with wildlife-encouraging hedgerows, the vineyard is wonderfully eco-friendly.
It is clear from the moment we arrive that this is a passionate, Yorkshire family business, dedicated to putting East Yorkshire on the map for its wines. Back in 2020 they enjoyed a visit from the Hairy Bikers as part of their Hairy Bikers Go North series, helping them reach a whole new audience and gain some loyal customers.
The right glass of wine can beautifully round out a dish, and Rebekah selected three of their favourite wines to pair with our suggested dishes, adding a whole new depth of flavour to these simple plates. Perfect for Summer entertaining, and enjoying some British artisan produce.
Chicken with Garlic, Lemon, Rosemary, and Thyme – Paired with the Madeleine Angevine white wine
Made using the Charlie & Ivy’s Rosemary, Thyme, and Lemon Bread Dipper, this is a delicious summer recipe which is perfect for the barbeque, packed with summer herbs and zesty lemon. Fresh and light the wine is perfect served crisp and cold alongside the chicken dish. With this wine you'll enjoy aromas of boiled sweets, with tasting notes of banana and passion fruit and a ripe melon finish.

Strawberry and Pomegranate Salad with Harrogate Blue – Paired with the Rondo Rosé wine
This fresh and fruity salad offers something a little different for the summer table. The sweetness of the strawberries paired with the pepperiness of the watercress, and saltiness of the Harrogate Blue, enjoying the addition of a drizzle of Charlie & Ivy’s Blackberry, Balsamic & Thyme Bread Dipper to finish. Perfectly paired with the fruity rosé which offers aromas of baked red fruits and almonds, with tastes and wild strawberries and cream and lower notes of marzipan and sour cherries.

Orange & Elderflower Sponges – Paired with the Rondo Red wine
These sponges are made using our Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil, making them beautifully light and the perfect finale to any summer dinner party. Packed with homemade elderflower cream and decorated with edible flowers they create a delicious summer party show stopper. This dish has been paired with the Rondo Red, a sometimes surprising choice for dessert, however notes of dried blackberries and black cherries, as well as peppermint, cedarwood, and toast it's the perfect balance and will see you into the evening as the nights draws in.
